Joint contract approved for Youth Services Director
San Marcos is set with funding to begin the search for the first Youth Services Director in collaboration with Hays County, Texas State University and San Marcos Consolidated ISD.
San Marcos City Council approved a joint contract with the three other entities to provide the funding for a new Youth Services Director. The contract amount for personnel will be no more than $110,000, with the city contributing no more than $50,000. Council also approved the contract for Community Action, Inc. of Central Texas to fill the position.
Tuesday’s council meeting also introduced Animal Services Manager Jeanne Saadi as the new local rabies control authority and appointed her to the Animal Shelter Advisory Board. City Manager Bert Lumbreras said, “She comes with a lot of credentials and experience. She has already proven to bring a lot of energy and excitement.”
Council planned to appoint a new assistant city attorney who withdrew his application earlier that day, leaving the position vacant. The City of San Marcos is still looking for a candidate to fill the position.
Other appointments include: Ryan Patrick Perkins, Laura Kennedy and Cindy Mayer for the Historic Preservation Com mission; Richard Cruz for the Housing Authority; and Monte Sheffield to the Convention and Visitors Bureau and as the Food and Beverage Establishment Representative. The city is still looking for someone who lives in a historic district to serve on the Historic Preservation Commission.
Council unanimously approved some proposed amendments to the development code, which happens annually, other proposed amendments require more analysis. Updates include protecting Native American plants, trees on private residences and eliminating the minimum parking requirement for developments with half a mile of a frequent transit stop.
The City of San Marcos will also perform additional analysis and partner with Texas State University to get a better understanding of the demand for student housing.
