KZSM–WKRP in San Marcos? Your Community Radio Station

Perhaps you have heard of WKRP in Cincinnati? If you haven’t, it is a sitcom from the 1970s. It was based on an eclectic group of characters who worked on a fictional radio station in, you got it, Cincinnati.

I begin this week with this reference because WKRP reality is alive and thriving right here in downtown San Marcos TX at KZSM Community Radio. We are a “random” bunch of people with a united passion– bringing the community of San Marcos into finer focus. On a much larger scale, we are building bridges throughout a global community and into your homes, cars, workstations, and lives. In fact, anywhere you can stream with Wi-Fi or an internet connection around the world, you hear the voices and the music, the perspectives, and the priorities–of San Martians.

We have a listening audience that truly encompasses the globe; they engage, call, and comment on social media with gratitude, opinions, and personal stories–all brought about by the people and stories of this community. Our global audience has been tuning in and growing for the past seven years; they are intrigued with the indie music and the interviews we share.

By the end of October, we are walking out onto the airwaves in San Marcos to show off our new FCC license. This past month we have been painting the walls, dusting off the stage lights, and remodeling our studio located at 216 N. Guadalupe in preparation for this next chapter. We will have our Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting on Sept. 28 at 10 a.m.

We strive to gain your support by asking you to tune in. You don’t have to wait until October; pull up KZSM.org in a browser on your computer or on your phone. We offer 24/7 programming with an incredibly diverse menu of genres and guests.

While we feature our live shows in our promotions, those are not the only programs we offer. We have shows that run as encore presentations, as well as syndicated shows.

You’re going to notice a bit more chatter about your homegrown station in the coming months while we continue in our efforts to make you proud and gain your loyalty.
