KZSM — What can we do for you?

Sunday, July 1, 2018

As a community radio station, we are committed to serving our community by providing programming that entertains, engages, and enlightens. Your radio hosts not only provide musical entertainment of various genres, one may also hear discussions and commentary on subjects that are timely and topical. Other programs offer insights, spiritual guidance, educational information, and sometimes even a little advice on how to navigate the occasional “bumps in the road” that are inevitable. These programs are all produced by the individual radio hosts. We advise all prospective radio hosts to “find out what you are passionate about” and we assist them in sharing it with our listening audience by providing training on using the broadcast equipment.

There are other areas in which we serve our listening audience as well. We will help local non-profit and community-based organizations publicize and promote events and activities. Examples would be the DJ-101 class for teens at the Public Library, events at the Price Center, and events associated with the Third Thursday Walkabouts brought to you by the Downtown Association.

Another example of serving our public is giving up-and-coming musical performers exposure through our Kissing Alley concerts and our Revolving Door program on Sunday afternoons. San Marcos This Week also informs our listeners about the local music scene, listing performers and the venues where they will be performing.

Recently, we held a Heavy Metal benefit concert at the Buzzmill that was such a success that we are already planning another one in September. It will be a three-day benefit with 18 bands performing. Plans are already being formulated for next year’s SMFest as well. More information will be forthcoming as it becomes available.

So, what can we do for you? If you have an idea for a program, we can help you bring it to fruition whether you choose to host it yourself or would just like to see it come to life. If you have a band or are part of a musical group or know someone who would like some exposure, then contact us a let us help you get discovered! Of course, we may also help with public service announcements for your community organization.

Join us at Wake the Dead Coffee House on Wednesday, July 18, for our volunteer staff meeting and in the Kissing Alley on Thursday, July19, for our next Kissing Alley concert!
