KZSM needs youth too

Sunday, February 2, 2020

One of the many beautiful things about community radio is its inclusiveness. In order to represent all segments of our community almost anyone is eligible to host their own radio program. This also extends to young people who may have an interest in broadcasting. Age has never been a limiting factor. Children learning to use computers and software programs already have an advantage since most of our operations are computerized. The most intimidating portion of the training is generally using a sound mixer, but even that is not too difficult to learn. If an interested child is willing to learn and can reach the equipment, we encourage them to apply. Flexible training and program hours are available. We also encourage parents to get involved to ensure that adult supervision is always maintained. For more information, please contact us at our website, visit with us at any of our events, come by the studio, or join us for our volunteer staff meetings. Our monthly staff meetings are held at Wake the Dead Coffee House every fourth Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Join us on Feb. 20 as Nate Guthrie returns to the Kissing Alley. This promises to be a fabulous evening brought to us by one of the hardest working musicians in San Marcos. Our concert series are always family-friendly, free and open to the public. Then on March 19, another of our wonderful local musicians, Ike Eichenberg will be on hand for your listening entertainment.

Mardi Gras is just around the corner and KZSM will be there as parade announcers. Tracy Weinberg will also be on hand to provide the musical entertainment. Please check local listings for times and locations.

Have you seen KZSM’s new program schedule? The schedule gets updated quarterly and can be found on our website and will be more current than those in print. The schedule printed with this column is a listing of live programs only. If you have favorite programs but they are broadcast at a time that isn’t convenient for you, check the online schedule you see when they will be re-broadcast.

We invite you to volunteer your time, talent or abilities. This is your true community radio station. Come and be a part of it! We can’t do what we do without your support.

KZSM (just a little bit south of weird) now streaming world-wide on the internet at KZSM.org.
