KZSM: Party at the Porch FUNdraiser Friday Night—You’re Invited!

Sunday, March 10, 2024

Join your KZSM family and friends this Friday, March 15, at The Porch, 129 East Hopkins Street, for a full evening of entertainment featuring six different performances. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the fun lasts until midnight or after. Tickets are a modest $5 ($10 for ages 18-21) at the door – your donation helps keep KZSM 104.1 and KZSM. org on the air. The Porch, chosen as Best Live Venue at the San Marcos Music Awards, offers an extensive drinks menu along with bar snacks and their award-winning burgers.

With this event, KZSM is raising the profile of our live music community by combining outstanding local talent with some larger touring acts during SXSW. Throughout the evening, you’ll enjoy a variety of New Age Americana, starting at 6:30 p.m. with Waylon Stoerner, a 16-year-old country singer songwriter from Southeast Texas. He’ll be followed by Cheer Up, Cheer Up, a recently formed San Martian group, nominated for Best New Artist at the San Marcos Music Awards. Their website describes their music as “fuzzy folk rock.”

The KZSM Party at the Porch continues with Sarah Burton. Originally from Toronto, Sarah has performed all over the US and Canada. Her most recent album has been described as “a raw and real album that skirts Americana, folk, rock and country.”

Emma Zeck is a Texas singer/songwriter whose debut album, “Eclipse,” was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London. Her music expresses the quest for personal liberation, especially for women. “I sing for the dreamers – for the complete and total reclamation of us all,” Zeck said.

The party continues at about 10 p.m. with David Newbould. Currently residing in Nashville, this “heartland roots-rocker, Americana artist, and amplified folksinger,” writes “songs that chart the ups and downs of an adulthood often spent onstage and on the road.”

Our Party at the Porch closes out at 11 p.m. with the super-group Vanna Black, a trio who mostly play in other popular Central Texas bands. They describe their music as “shoe gaze meets country.”

“Hays County is the fastest growing county in the nation,” KZSM Board President Jeremy Garrett points out, “touring acts need to start putting our town as a location to stop and play shows.” Join our Party on the Porch to expand the scope of live music, have a good time, and support your True Community Radio Station.
