KZSM radio — the choice is yours

Sunday, November 11, 2018

With so many choices to choose from, why would anyone choose to listen to an internet radio station? In many vehicles, Wi-Fi or internet access is not yet an option. However, in almost any other situation, public access to an internet signal is pretty much the norm.

What makes this option even more enticing is that wherever anyone may wish to go, listening to a favorite program is now possible. Several of our radio hosts tell us that they have family members listening to their programs from various parts of the world.

As for a community internet radio station, one may still hear music, but the commentaries tend to be more focused on news, information and happenings within the local area. Another advantage is that the programming is provided by members from within the community. Local folks keeping local listeners informed and entertained. The governing board is also drawn from members of the community who have a much better idea of the needs and desires of the neighborhoods they serve.

Your true community radio station is always eager to consider applications for new programs and volunteers. If you have an idea for a program that you don’t already hear or if you have an idea for doing a program similar to something already on our program schedule but with a different perspective, come and share it with us! Although we broadcast on a 24-hour schedule, we currently do not have 24 hours of live programming. There are still plenty of time slots available to fill.

So, you would like to volunteer but aren’t so sure about being a DJ, we also welcome volunteers with a variety of skill sets.

Just ask any one of us, we’d be happy to discuss how you can become a valued member of your true community radio family. Come to our volunteer staff meeting on Wednesday the 14th which will be held at the LBJ Museum, meet the staff, and bring your ideas and suggestions on how we may better serve our community.

You may also come to the Kissing Alley for our free, family-friendly concert on the 15th and talk to a staff member there as well. While you’re there, have a seat and enjoy the music provided by Nate Guthrie, Ella Reid and Lina Clarke this month. This is going to be an acoustical guitar night. We can also be found at the Farmer’s Market almost every Saturday.

We would also like to thank all of our veterans for their service and the sacrifices they’ve had to make to ensure all our personal freedoms!

KZSM (Just a little bit south of weird!) now streaming world-wide on the internet at KZSM.org.
