Man arrested after 22 years years on the run

EL PASO, Texas (AP) — A West Texas fugitive has been arrested after being on the run from authorities for more than 22 years. Authorities had been looking for 58-yearold Jose Guadalupe Silva Jr. since August 1996 after he failed to appear in court following his arrest in El Paso on a drug smuggling charge. Silva was arrested for possession with intent to distribute more than 50 kilograms of marijuana. He was accused of trying to smuggle marijuana into the U.S. through one of the ports of entry in El Paso. Authorities say Silva was released on a $30,000 bond and went on the run. Investigators followed leads in Texas, California and Mexico. The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in November learned Silva was in El Paso and after conducting surveillance, arrested him.
