Man assaults Lockhart police officer, flees scene

On Friday morning at approximately 1 a.m., Cody Bennett Gomez assaulted Officer Matthew Shira in Lockart, TX. After stopping Gomez in the parking lot of Dairy Queen, Shira attempted to arrest Gomez for an arrest warrant for Burglary of Habitation.

However, Gomez resisted, and ultimately was able to use Shira’s flashlight against him. He then fled the scene and has not yet been located. According to a press release, a search of the area was conducted that included a police helicopter from the Department of Public Safety. Shira has been treated for his injuries at Seton Kyle Medical Center and has been released.

Gomez is a Hispanic male, 6’03”, 175 lbs, has Hazel eyes and was last seen wearing tan shorts, gray t-shirt with red lettering.
