Philosophy and Popular Music on KZSM

Sunday, March 1, 2020

KZSM proudly features programming you won’t hear anywhere else. Our newest offering is Philosophy and Popular Music, hosted by Paul Wilson and broadcast live on KZSM. org Thursdays 3-4 p.m. The Texas State University Department of Philosophy underwrites the show as part of their popular Philosophy Dialogue series.

For his broadcasts, Wilson will meld his two careers: He’s an accomplished musician and a former member of the Association, and also an instructor in the Philosophy Department. His background will inform a show that’s entertaining and informative but also philosophical in approach and structure.

Philosophy and Popular Music will examine a wide range of topics, including history, technology, aesthetics, studio session musicians, touring, and the ever difficult relationship between art and commerce.

This Thursday, March 5, Wilson will focus on "The Aesthetics and Technology of Analog vs. Digital" featuring Ace Pepper and Rick Stockton, musicians and producers. Ace recently opened JAMS music, the first music store in San Marcos to open in four years, along with his wife, Jesika Savage. Rick, formerly of San Marcos, now lives in Colorado. In this episode, Ace and Rick discuss how recorded sound in the music business has changed over time.

Philosophy and Popular Music is just the latest addition to our lineup of original, entertaining, and thought-provoking programming. Check the schedule below for our other live broadcasts. The schedule printed with this column is a listing of live programs only — the complete quarterly schedule can be found on our website KZSM.org. If your favorite programs are broadcast at a time that isn’t convenient for you, check the online schedule to see when they will be re-broadcast.

In addition to our broadcasts, KZSM serves the San Marcos by sponsoring the Kissing Alley concert series in conjunction with Eyes on San Marcos. Our next concert, on March 19th, will feature one of our wonderful local musicians, Moira Thomas Jazz.

Our programming reflects the spirit of San Marcos; there’s plenty of room for your imagination and interest in our radio family. You might consider hosting your own show, but you can also support us in many other ways. Contact kzsmsanmarcos@gmail.com to volunteer.

This is your true community radio station. Come and be a part of it. We can’t do what we do without your support.

KZSM (just a little bit south of weird) now streaming world-wide on the internet at KZSM.org.
