Police identify man found dead at Kyle Crossing

Friday, July 12, 2019

Kyle Police identified a man who was found dead at Kyle Crossing on July 2.

John Raymond Distasio, 55, was found by a pedestrian who was on the way to work on July 2, police said. The pedestrian went into the Home Depot at Kyle Crossing and employees called Kyle police.

“Our officers began the investigation at the scene, which is on the southside of Kyle Crossing in between the I-35 frontage road and the first entrance into Home Depot,” Kyle police lieutenant Andre Marmolejo said in a statement last week.

Police didn’t find any identification at the time of the incident, and were unaware of the man’s name or age. Hays County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Beth Smith ordered an autopsy of the man’s body. Fingerprints were used to confirm his identification, officials said.

Police believe Distasio is a transient from New Mexico. Preliminary reports indicate illegal drug use was involved in his death. The final cause of death and the toxicology report, however, are still pending.

Police do not suspect foul play.
