Possible court for food trucks receives hearing

Tuesday, June 11, 2019

A public hearing on a potential food truck court on Chestnut Street is on the agenda for the Planning and Zoning Commission tonight.

The commission will hold a public hearing and consider the request for a food truck court at 801 Chestnut St., a property previously used as a religious education facility by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The site is across Chestnut from Treff’s Tavern. The applicants want to put in seven food trucks in the existing parking lot, with the existing building being used as the commissary kitchen for the trucks located on site.

City staff recommends approval of the proposal with several conditions, including: hours of operation will be limited to 1 a.m.-11 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 7 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays; a fence with a tight wire mesh will be installed on the edge of the property adjoining Sessom Creek to prevent litter from entering the creek; and there will be no live amplified music.

In other business tonight, P&Z will hold a public hearing and consider a request for a conditional use permit for the sale and on-premise consumption of mixed beverages at 1141 Interstate Highway 35 North, the future location of Saltgrass Steakhouse.

Planning and Zoning will meet at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall, 630 E. Hopkins St. P&Z meetings are also streamed online.
