Pure Sound from the Heart at KZSM

Sunday, March 15, 2020

One of our newest shows at KZSM shows off the creative, innovative vibe of our city and our community radio station.

Mondays from 6-8 p.m., San Martian Sound Radio provides a gathering place for musicians and artists focused on the celebration of and fascination with the concept of sound as art. Host Vance Osborne and his guests discuss local and experimental music, sound art installations, and everything in between. “No genre is off limits,” Osborne explains, “we feel the purpose of art is to share passion and perspectives with limits decided only by the presenting artist.” Tune in for interviews, live studio performances, and conversations about sonic esoterica.

For Osborne, successful sonic art melds purity of sound with passionate expression. “At best, the artist can achieve an inorganic perfect exactness of sound, computer like, no errors, but do so with acoustic analogue organic instruments or sounds, which to me shows the extreme skill and focus of the artist’s craft.” Such skill comes from genuine passion, the ability to pour the performer’s existence into their art.

In order to pursue progress, an artist will often reflect on culture, society, and politics, and therefore these topics are openly discussed on San Martian Sound Radio.

Every first Friday of the month, San Martian Sound Radio hosts the variety show Dead Air at Wake the Dead, which showcases sound, visual, and performance art. Dead Air accepts any willing performer who wants to share their art on stage.

San Martian Sound Radio airs live from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, with rebroadcasts Fridays 10 p.m. to midnights and Saturdays 12 to 2 a.m. and 2 to 4 a.m. Check the schedule below for our other live broadcasts. The schedule printed with this column is a listing of live programs only — the complete quarterly schedule can be found on our website KZSM.org. If your favorite programs are broadcast at a time that isn’t convenient for you, check the online schedule to see when they will be re-broadcast.
