Repairs to Purgatory spillway now underway
Repairs to the flood control dam in Purgatory Creek Natural Area are now underway after being rescheduled from early July.
During the repairs, park visitors are encouraged to stay clear of the dam and spillway area.
The work is expected to be completed by Aug. 29.
Hays County’s contractor is repairing erosion in the area around the auxiliary spillway caused by the October 2015 flood. The erosion did not affect the integrity of the dam and spillway, and they remain structurally sound.
Funds for the $171,000 project come from an Emergency Watershed Protection grant through the Natural Resources Conservation Service with matching funds from the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board and Hays County.
Questions about the project should be addressed to Justin McInnis, Hays County Assistant Emergency Management Coordinator, at Justin.mcinnis@co.hays.tx.us or at 512-393-7300.
