San Marcos Airbnb hosts earn record income during TXST commencement

Sunday, June 2, 2019

Airbnb, the world’s leading community-driven hospitality company, announced earlier this month that San Marcos hosts were set to earn over $41,000 in income while welcoming an additional 500 guests to the city during the May Texas State University commencement weekend.

This represented the largest surge of guests to San Marcos in the history of Airbnb’s platform.

This came as Texas State prepared for a historically large commencement class. Home sharing and vacation rentals have allowed cities like San Marcos to utilize pre-existing resources - people’s homes - to expand lodging capacity and retain as many visitors as possible.

In 2018, Hays County hosts earned $6.5 million in supplemental income while welcoming 52,000 guest arrivals.
