Kathryn Whitbeck

San Marcos native Whitbeck graduates Naval School of Music

San Marcos native Kathryn Whitbeck graduated from the Naval School of Music in Virginia Beach, VA Joint Expeditionary Base: Little Creek Fort Story on May 11. Whitbeck graduated from San Marcos High School in 2010 and earned her Vocal Performance degree from Texas State University School of Music in 2015.

While serving as a basic course student from Nov. 28, 2017- May 11, 2018, musician seaman Whitbeck displayed advanced technical skill, knowledge and ability by achieving an instrumental ability score of 30.0, earning her the Navy’s Distinguished “Meritorious Mast” Award. Additionally,she is the only vocalist to ever graduate from the Navy’s School of Music with automatic teacher certification.

This accomplishment sets her apart from her peers and identifies this sailor as possessing technical proficiency at the top 1 percent in her grade. MUSN Whitbeck’s superior effort, hard work and unswerving determination, have earned the respect of all, and has reflected credit upon her and the entire United States Naval Service.

Whitbeck is now stationed at the United States Naval Base: Seventh Fleet in Yokosuka, Japan. Her service will take her to many other countries, (including Thailand and Indonesia) as she performs as a lead vocalist along with her fellow “shipmates.”
