Compassion, safety, and comfort. Those are some words that can be used to describe what those who have experienced trauma or violence, perhaps, feel when entering into the new space that recently opened at the San Marcos Police Department.
According to city officials, survivors of crime, domestic abuse, sexual assault and especially children in traumatic situations will now be able to be taken to what is called a “soft interview room” in order to get the appropriate help they need at such a time.
This room features soft lighting, white noise and soft textiles such as couches and blankets, designed to create a warm and welcoming place for people during vulnerable moments, as opposed to more traditional police interview rooms. Officials said that children will be able to play with toys, grab a bean chair and watch a movie, or find a fun book to read.
