Sessom Creek Natural Area Restoration Project begins

Sunday, March 21, 2021

City of San Marcos-contracted crews will begin work on the Sessom Creek Natural Area restoration project on March 22.

Crews will remove invasive trees, stabilize eroding slopes and introduce native seeds and plants to restore biodiversity to the Sessom Creek watershed.

The Environmental Protection Agency and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality are providing $100,000 in Clean Water Act grant funding for the project.

Restoration efforts in the Sessom Creek Natural Area will establish an ecosystem that captures carbon, feeds pollinators and manages water sources.

The city selected local contractor Jecker Field Services/ Whitenton Group Inc. for the restoration project. Work is expected to be complete by the end of May.
