Sociedad Cuauhtémoc hosts community Holiday Fiesta

Sunday, December 23, 2018

La Sociedad Cuauhtémoc hosted its annual Christmas Fiesta on Friday, Dec. 14.

The Community Holiday Fiesta, co-sponsored by Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos, delighted hundreds of San Marcos residents of all ages with an evening filled with family fun, delicious home-cooked food, crafts, traditional Mexican holiday music and an appearance by Santa Claus.

The fiesta has quickly become a beloved tradition by community members and continues. “The money we raise from our events throughout the year goes back into the community,” said Liz Castañeda, “So this is another way to give back to our community.”

Founded on July 4, 1942, La Sociedad Cuauhtémoc just celebrated its 76th Anniversary this past summer with a dance headlined by Ricky Naranjo y Los Gamblers. Since its inception, La Sociedad Cuauhtémoc has been driven by the need to serve the community and preserve and celebrate Mexican-American culture, music, traditions and customs. This commitment has been sustained by countless of devoted members that have worked vigorously to help organize social, cultural and educationally rich experiences for the local community.

Throughout the decades, La Sociedad Cuauhtémoc has served the community in various capacities and is characterized by a proud and rich legacy of civic engagement, advocacy and public service. As an essential community institution, the La Sociedad Cuauhtémoc remains steadfast in its efforts to remain loyal to its ideals envisioned by its founders by using its venue for hosting community events and distributing educational scholarships for San Marcos CISD graduates.
