TXST professor identified in fatal car crash

A Texas State University professor died in a car accident on Monday. 

Yolanda Reyes, 60, was pronounced dead at the scene of a multi-vehicle accident at the intersection of State Highway 21 and Cotton Gin Road near Uhland, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Deon Cockrell. The accident took place at approximately 6:55 a.m. on Monday and involved four vehicles, including a dump-truck type vehicle. 

“The university was deeply saddened to learn of the death of our colleague and friend, Yolanda Reyes, who was a lecturer in the College of Education’s Curriculum and Instruction Department,” Texas State said in a statement. “The condolences of the Texas State family are with Ms. Reyes’ family, friends and students during this difficult time.”

The Curriculum and Instruction Department is notifying and meeting with Reyes’ students and the Campus Counseling Center is providing services to those who need support, according to a statement from Texas State Media Relations Manager Jayme Blaschke. 

“Moments like this remind us that the well-being of our university community is at the utmost concern, and the Campus Counseling Center is available to help,” the university said. 

The Curriculum and Instruction Department is planning a memorial  for Reyes with details pending. Reyes will be recognized during the university’s Bobcat Pause Memorial Service on April 8. 

DPS said no charges have been filed at this time. The investigation is ongoing and all contributing factors are currently unknown.
