Woman killed in collision with tractor-trailer

Friday, October 12, 2018

A San Marcos woman died in a collision with a tractor-trailer on  Interstate 35 Thursday night.

San Marcos emergency units responded to a major traffic accident in the northbound lanes of I-35 at the Hwy. 123 exit at 10:30 p.m. Oct. 11.

Arriving units found that a black 2018 Nissan Altima had struck the rear of an 18-wheeler trailer and went under the trailer, suffered extensive damage.

The driver and sole occupant, identified as Jayde Nicole Sherbert, 22, was pronounced dead on the scene by Justice of the Peace Jo Ann Prado. The driver of the truck was uninjured.

Sherbert was a resident of San Marcos and a former Texas State University student.

Investigators believe that she had been texting just before the collision. Investigators have yet to determine the speed of the two vehicles involved, but at the time of the accident northbound traffic had been slowed due to road construction.

Two traffic lanes were blocked until about 4:30 a.m. Friday while investigators worked the scene.

The SMPD Collision Investigation Team continues to investigate.
