County won’t ban ‘sticks/fins’ fireworks
JULY FOURTH
Although some Texas counties have already enacted bans on some fireworks ahead of the Fourth of July holiday, it’s a sure bet that won’t be happening in Hays County.
According to county spokeswoman Laureen Chernow, today is the deadline for counties to enact bans against pyrotechnics that use “sticks and fins,” but that only applies if the KBDI Drought Index is at 575 or more.
The county’s KBDI reading on Thursday was 521.
Chernow said Clint Browning, the county’s fire marshal, is monitoring the situation “and plans to issue warning/safety information to the public as is standard” prior to the holiday.
Firework sales for the Fourth of July holiday begin on June 24.
