Chuy’s throws annual Elvis Birthday Bash

Wednesday, January 1, 2020

Chuy’s, the Tex-Mex restaurant founded in Austin in 1982, invites Elvis Presley fans to rock ‘n’ roll on in for The King’s 85th Birthday on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Chuy's locations will celebrate with all-day food and drink specials.

Join in the fun. Come to Chuy’s dressed as Elvis — or his better half, Priscilla — on Jan. 8 and receive a free entrée of your choice.

To commemorate the day, Chuy’s will offer $1 off their signature Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken, a chicken breast breaded with Lay’s potato chips and fried golden brown, served with Green Chile Sauce and cheese, and The Elvis Presley Memorial Combo, an enchilada plate fit for The King, served with a crispy beef taco and tostada chips dipped in queso.

In recognition of Elvis’ career on the big screen, Chuy’s will be selling Blue Hawaiians — a specialty drink made with Blue Curacao, Malibu Rum, pineapple juice and lime juice and The King’s Punch — a tiki-style fruit punch made with Mount Gay Eclipse rum and Malibu rum.

“Elvis is our Patron Saint at Chuy’s and we love to celebrate his life with a birthday party every year,” said Ashley Ingle, Chuy’s VP of marketing. “It’s amazing to see Chuy’s fans who love Elvis as much as we do. Dress up, enjoy some great Tex-Mex and have fun honoring The King.”

When Chuy’s first opened in 1982 on Barton Springs Road in Austin, Chuy’s founders hit the streets with $20 in search of something to put on the walls. They ended up buying an oversized velvet painting of Elvis, hanging it up in the restaurant and ultimately changing the course of the restaurant’s history forever. Soon customers were donating their own memorabilia, and swapping stories, establishing Elvis as the official Patron Saint of Chuy’s. Ever since, Chuy’s has been constructing shrines in his honor and celebrating the birthday of the The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Chuy's serves authentic Tex-Mex food in an eclectic atmosphere full of color and personality. The menu offers family recipes from South Texas, New Mexico and Mexican border towns, all made to order from the freshest ingredients. Chuy's has the reputation as the most fun and friendly spot to eat real Tex-Mex at a great price. For more information about Chuy’s Tex-Mex, visit their website or Facebook page.

The San Marcos Chuy’s is located 1121 N. Interstate 35.
