KZSM — News from this world and the next

Sunday, July 26, 2020

We at KZSM.org keep you informed with our Monday and Friday noon COVID-19 News Specials. We talk to experts and officials such as San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson and County Judge Ruben Becerra. Text hosts Rob Roark and Dave Wendel at (512) 986-9430 before or during the show with your questions.

KZSM.org continues to feature new programs to reflect the unique spirit of our diverse community. Our newest addition, “Swamp Gas Uggos” airs Sunday nights from 10-11 p.m. Hosts Jordan Pilkenton and Lexi Morris are comedians with four years of experience in stand-up, sketch, and improv. “Despite our giant egos,” Morris explains, “we like to call ourselves Uggos to keep ourselves in check.” “We hope that we can lean on our experience to provide an entertaining hour of radio,” Pilkenton adds.

On their late-night paranormal radio show, Pilkenton and Morris conjure up spooky stories about cryptids, ghosts, UFOs, and everything else that goes bump in the night. Pilkenton takes on the persona of the believer and “in-house expert,” exploring the deep history of topics like the Mothman, Area 51, and out of body experiences. Morris, on the other hand, portrays the “in-house moron,” who may be “too stupid to be scared” or may laugh just because she is scared. Pilkenton and Morris “discuss the histories and mysteries of various myths.” For instance, their August second show will focus on Yokai, Japanese spirits and monsters that haunt the island nation.

“We want our listeners to have a fun, laugh filled time while they also learn about the supernatural,” Pilkenton explains. The two hosts cover anything about “the unknown” and invite guests as well. “We hope to talk to witches and psychics and anyone with a story to tell,” Morris explains. They encourage San Martians to email inexplicable encounters and uncanny experience to Uglyswampstories@ gmail.com.

They may even find a source close to home. Other guests and program hosts at our KZSM.org storefront studio at 216 North Guadalupe have reported mysterious encounters with an entity they have named “Willy,” after a song that seems to evoke him.

As volunteers, Radio Hosts Pilkenton and Morris donate the time they spend researching and planning broadcasts. Volunteers sustain our programming, but space and equipment cost money, and KZSM. org is a self-supporting non-profit. To help sustain our programming, find the “donate” button on our website, KZSM.org. Tune in, stay in, help out.
