Kyle celebrates life of beloved community member Sue Ferrell
Commemorating her lasting impact throughout the Kyle community, Sue Ferrell was honored by family and friends in ‘A Celebration of Life’ event Tuesday.
Ferrell was an active community member mostly known for always lending a hand or offering kind words to anyone in need. After moving to Kyle in 2008, she became a member of the Kyle United Methodist Church, Kyle Rotary Club, Kyle VFW, Kyle Police Auxiliary, Kyle Chamber of Commerce, and the Hometown Networking Group of Kyle.
Hosted by the Kyle Chamber of Commerce, a gathering of guests, including city council members and the mayor, exchanged their favorite memories of Ferrell while surrounded by pictures of her enjoying life.
“This is exactly what Sue wanted,” Kyle Rotary Club Charter member Ron Martin said. “She wanted a celebration party. Kyle was so lucky to have Sue Ferrell. Rest in peace, Sue. We love you.”
Kyle Police Department Captain Pedro Hernandez recalled what he’ll never forget about Ferrell.
“I don’t really remember exactly where I met Sue,” he said. “But that’s the thing, she was everywhere. City council meetings; chamber meetings; rotary club, the police station. And no matter what was going on, she always had a smile on her face.”
Ferrell’s dedication to the community led her to earn the Kyle Area Chamber of Commerce’s Ambassador of the Year award four times, the Volunteer of the Year award, the Spirit of Kyle award, and the only honorary Key to the City ever presented to a community member.
“I don’t really remember exactly where I met Sue,” he said. “But that’s the thing, she was everywhere. City council meetings; chamber meetings; rotary club, the police station. times, the Volunteer of the Year award, the Spirit of Kyle award, and the only honorary Key to the City ever presented to a community member.
“I can imagine many of the people in this room have a connection to Sue, but also have a connection to someone else in this room because of Sue,” City of Kyle Mayor Travis Mitchell said. “She saw [her older years] as a season of opportunity to love, laugh and make connections in the community. I think Sue would want us all to continue to emulate the life that she enjoyed for us.”
Sue Ferrell was 92 when she passed away on Feb. 14, 2021.
