KZSM — You won’t hear it anywhere else!

Sunday, May 16, 2021

KZSM.org, your true community radio station, features music on some fifteen different shows that air throughout the week. Some, like “The Mop Tops and the King” (Mondays 9-10 p.m.) celebrate and explore the familiar and wellloved. But other broadcasts offer new musical experiences—sounds not heard anywhere else.

On “The Ground Under the Rock” (Wednesday 10 p.m. to midnight), host "John-Luke Pretard, the Human Cannonball" plays “music you don’t hear on the radio”—underground rock from the beginning to the present. Saturdays 10 p.m. to midnight you can join “The Rev,” Chris Marsh, for a dose of “Noise Therapy,” a hard rock show with an emphasis on the positive. He invites bands to send him their music, seeking and discovering surprises for himself and his listeners.

KZSM.org’s veteran DJ Metal Mark Moniz also invites bands to send music, with a different twist and an emphasis on Texas. He provides an outlet for the local rock and roll and heavy metal scene. Up-and-coming bands send him CDs for air play. “I'm resurrecting music that has never reached any commercial air play,” he explains.

Beyond rock in its many varieties, “Dead Air Radio” (Mondays 7-9 p.m.) explores “the concept of sound as art.” Host Vance Osborne and his guests play and discuss local and experimental music, sound art installations, and everything in between.

Our most eclectic music show features a medium, not a genre. From 10 p.m. to midnight on Mondays, Rob Roark hosts “Vinyl Confessions.” He plays records he finds as a vendor at the Kyle Flea Market, along with LPs or 45s that people give him. “The music comes to me, randomly, from people out there.”

With the cautious return of social gathering, KZSM. org brings back another source of music not always available elsewhere—live, in-studio performances. On Roark’s “Revolving Door” (Sundays 6-8 p.m.) and “Friday Night with Care” (Fridays 8-10 p.m.) hosted by Carole Coburn, musicians from Texas and beyond play and talk about their music. We record these performances and add them to our library, so, any time you tune in to KZSM. org, you might hear something new.
