Jesse Leroy McJohnson, the beloved son of Jeannie Lewis and Bob McJohnson (deceased), died unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, May 30, 2021. Jesse was adopted at the age of eight by Jeannie and Bob in Denton, Texas. At the time, he was living in a foster home with his younger brother Larry, who was also adopted by the couple.

The family moved to San Marcos in 1985. Two older adopted children had already become adults and had left home. Jesse attended Goodnight Middle School and graduated from San Marcos High School, where he played drums in the school band. He also played baseball and ran track and field. Jesse had Asperger's Syndrome on the Autism Spectrum. He was highly intelligent and could focus intensely on any topic of interest to him.

After high school, Jesse entered Gary Job Corps where he studied computer science. While he attended Gary, Jesse’s beloved father died of cancer. Jesse was heartbroken, but managed to continue and graduate from Gary with certification in computer science. After graduation, Jesse worked at the San Marcos Daily Record and, then at Dell Computer in Austin for several years. He earned several technical certifications while at Dell.

Jesse was currently working at Ibex in New Braunfels as a Technical Support Agent. Ibex is a Call Center specializing in supportive technical customer service. Jesse had been working from home during the pandemic. Jesse was the “go to” expert for his family and friends who had computer problems.

Jesse loved computer games and played them with friends whenever he could. He was also an expert photographer and was involved in a photography club while working in Austin. One of his photos was featured on the cover of the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce annual magazine.

Jesse had a deep interest in all things involving science fiction, and he was an especially big fan of Star Wars and Star Trek. He avidly followed current news and enjoyed talking about what was going on in the world. He cared intensely about injustice in our country and expressed his opinions intelligently.

Jesse was an animal lover and he was particularly fond of a stray cat adopted by the family. It was an orange tabby and Jesse named him Orangey. He would talk to Orangey and hold him on his lap whenever he could. Orangey would talk back and follow Jesse around in the house. Orangey will miss Jesse.

Jesse is survived by his mother Jeannie Lewis; sister Ann Hopper; two brothers, Ernest Phil McJohnson, and Larry McJohnson-Small, and brother-in-law Tommy McJohnson-Small. He is also survived by a close former sister-in-law Jaide Flynn and her husband Stehlin.

Jesse had several nieces and nephews: Matt Lee (and wife Megan and daughter Peyton); Andrew Lee; Bobby Hopper; Tara Woeller (and husband Jesse and children Gabe, Warren, Titan, and Freya); Ryan Brown; Cynthia McJohnson-McAuley (and husband Shaun and son Conor); and Thomas McJohnson.

Memorial services for Jesse will be announced at a later date. Meanwhile, family and friends have this to say to Jesse, “May the Force be with you!”
