Harvey Edward Miller “The Good-Looking Fella”

Deacon Harvey Miller, age 90, went to be with the Lord on September 1, 2020. He passed away peacefully in his San Marcos home surrounded by family and friends.

Harvey Miller was the first-born of ten children to his loving parents Frank “Red” and Elnora Miller on November 4, 1929 in Georgetown, TX. He went to Carver High School located on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd in Georgetown where he ran track and played on the football team and then graduated in 1949.

Mr. Miller married his high school sweetheart Ara Belle Jefferson on July 7, 1948.

He had four daughters Crystal Ann, Linda Susan, Mittie Kathryn, and Miriam Artricia. In 1966, they moved to San Marcos and he continued his work of youth advocacy at Gary Job Corps which opened in 1964. Harvey began at an entry level position of Residential Advisor, then he was promoted to Supervisor and ultimately Campus Manager. He retired from Gary after 33 years of distinguished service.

He was an active member and deacon of Greater Bethel Baptist Church for more than 40 years.

Mr. Harvey Miller leaves behind his two daughters Mittie Miller and Tricia Wall, eight grandchildren; Alex Banbury Jr. Alan Banbury, Alvin Banbury, Ray Wheeler Jr, Wylinda Wheeler, Winona Sanders, Wynetta Jackson-Bradley, Wynton Wheeler, 22 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Birdie Shanklin (sister), Bessie Langdon (sister), Jonnie “Mac” Miller (brother) and his wife Sharon, and James Miller of Hillsboro, TX. Additionally, he leaves behind two sons-in-law, Alex Banbury Sr., and Ray Wheeler Sr.

The family would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice of San Marcos who cared for Mr. Miller in his final hours. And as Mr. Miller would say, “Hi, Bye, Don’t Cry.”
