Jaque Higgs

Jaque Higgs of San Marcos, Texas, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away on Friday, January 3, 2020, at the age of 90. She was born September 28, 1929, in Laredo, Texas to Stephen Louis and Tiny Katherine (Secrest) Reuthinger.

Jaque attended elementary and high school in Laredo and later Southwest Texas State Teachers College where she attained her Bachelor’s Degree.

She was an elementary school teacher in the San Marcos School District for many years.

While attending college she met Willie Higgs, the love of her life. They were married August 24, 1948. They had two sons, Bill Higgs and Bob Higgs.

After a long career in the teaching profession, Jaque and Willie became successful in their many business pursuits throughout the years. 

Jaque is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Higgs (2013); brother, Steve Reuthinger and her sister, Peggy Reuthinger Hardt. She is survived by her two sons, Bob Higgs and Bill Higgs and his wife, Jenny; grandchildren, Amy Higgs, Kailee Harbaugh and Kevin Higgs; brother, Bill Reuthinger; sister, Mary Jane Hamlin and sister-in- law, Dorys Dickey. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at Pennington Funeral Home, with Rev. Chad Chaddick officiating. Interment will follow at the San Marcos City Cemetery.

Family request contributions in Jaque’s memory be made to a charity of choice.
