William C. Bittner of San Marcos passed away peacefully with his wife and sons by his side on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018. He was born in Seguin, Texas on Sept. 16, 1947 to Lillian Bittner.  At only 17 years old, Bill enlisted in the Army. He survived the Korean War, Vietnam War, and the Tet Offensive of 1968. On Dec. 19, 1981, he married his beloved Sharon in New Braunfels. After 21 years of moving all over the United States for the Army and Army National Guard, Bill decided to retire. After retirement, he was a semi-truck driver and loved every minute behind the wheel. He loved to fish, go target shooting, read, and loved to cook with cayenne pepper. Above all else, he loved his family. He and his wife were also members of Grace Lutheran Church of San Marcos for many years. 

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sharon Bittner; son, Bryan Bittner and wife Kristen; daughter, Jennifer McGinley; son, William Andrew Bittner and wife Ella; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; brothers Roger Bittner and Douglas Bittner; and sister, Claudette Magar. He is preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Bittner; son, William Charles Bittner Jr. and daughter, Lillie Bittner.

Visitation will be held at Zoeller Funeral Home, 615 Landa St. New Braunfels, TX., on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018 from 6-9 p.m.  A Military Graveside Service will be Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018 at 9:15 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in Shelter #2. We will be departing in procession at 8 a.m. from Zoeller Funeral Home. 

A Memorial service will be Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church of San Marcos, 1250 Belvin St. San Marcos, Texas 78666, with reception to follow
