Anti-business claim a false narrative

Letter to the Editor
Wednesday, November 21, 2018

Editor:

I wanted to respond to the Letter to the Editor from Sunday that was signed by Jason Mock and others. I am disappointed that a few voices in our community continue to peddle a false narrative that our city is anti-business. It is extremely disconcerting that the president of the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce would attack our city in this manner.

I hope that everyone in our business community can focus on being productive and, as stated on the Chamber’s website “improve the economic prosperity and quality of life in our community.” I don’t believe that any reasonable person would conclude that attacking city staff and unpaid volunteers in the press is a good way to achieve the Chamber’s important goals.

I have only lived in San Marcos since 2007, but since that time we have seen tremendous progress in our city government. We have achieved a good balance between protecting our neighborhoods and promoting smart growth and economic development. I have complete confidence that Mayor Hughson and our City Council, as well as our many boards and commissions, will continue the progress we have made and continue to support small business.
