SMCISD Trustees to review schematic designs for CDC and new central office

The schematic design for the new San Marcos CISD central office building and a plan for the district’s Child Development Center (CDC) are on the agenda for the SMCISD trustees’ meeting Monday evening.

As part of their consent agenda, the trustees will consider the design of the new central office building. The district’s decades-old administration building had to be abandoned last year because of mold; the district is currently renting space at the Old Mill to accommodate the central office and holding board meetings at the high school.

The consent agenda also includes the approval of a San Marcos High School trip to New York, the approval of a $10,000 grant from Amazon, and the consideration of a procurement method for the Bonham Pre-Kindergarten drainage improvements.

The board also will consider a plan for a new location for the CDC. The district initially wanted to make some renovations to the current Teaching, Learning and Assessment (TLA) building and move the CDC there. However, the district has the option to make more extensive renovations to the TLA building that would expand capacity for the CDC and give the building longer life.

In other business, the board will go into executive session to discuss the proposed termination of a term contract with a nurse at Goodnight Middle School and possibly take action afterwards. The board is also slated to approve the 2018-2019 board meeting calendar, receive a presentation from the district’s general counsel on the method of electing school board trustees, and hear updates on construction, the budget, and the Student Health Advisory Committee.

The SMCISD board of trustees will meet at 6 p.m. in the Criminal Justice Classroom (11) at San Marcos High School, 2601 Rattler Rd.
