Antoine wins 200th game as Bobcats defeat Ohio

Texas State notched a historic win over the weekend. Not only did the Bobcats win their second straight game with a 80-71 win over the Ohio Bobcats, but Head Coach Zenarae Antoine captured her 200th career win.

“I’m happy, because we got a sweep as a team [this week],” Antoine said. “I can’t lie, Ohio is my old stomping grounds … so there’s a lot of nostalgia for me when I’m on this court. I have a lot of respect for what Bob has done with this program. [My 200th win] happening at [Ohio], a place I truly cherished in my time here, both as a grad student and a coach, is awesome.”

The path to Antoine’s 200th win was not easy as Texas State trailed 3533 to Ohio despite closing out the second period on a 5-0 run capped off by a buzzer beating three-pointer by junior forward Jaylin Foster.

Despite the third quarter being a pitfall for Texas State throughout the season, the Bobcats from San Marcos turned those fortunes around by taking their first lead of the game since the early second period following a layup by senior forward Morgan Hill.

Despite Ohio retaking the lead at 38-37, Texas State responded with a 7-0 lead sparked by a three pointer by senior guard Gara Beth Self to go up 44-38.

Ohio failed to regain the lead in the third period as Texas State pushed the deficit out to nine points to enter the fourth period up 56-47.

Ohio was unable to catch up to the Texas State in the fourth period as the Bobcats from San Marcos rolled to a 8071 win over the Bobcats from Athens, Ohio.

Ja’Niah Henson once again led the way for Texas State with a team high 22 points.

Texas State will continue their road trip as the Bobcats take on Troy Thursday night.
