Bobcats qualify for NCAA Tournament

Texas State discovered their fate on Sunday following the completion of the Sun Belt Tournament as the Bobcats were selected to participate in the NCAA Softball Tournament.

Head Coach Ricci Woodard was happy with where the Bobcats ended up in the regionals.

“This is a great regional for us,” Woodard said. “We get to go into somewhere we’re familiar with, a place we’ve had success this season, play teams we know, and just focus on playing our best softball.”

Texas State was placed in the Austin Regional which is hosted by the Texas Longhorns who are the No. 13 seed in the Tournament.

Also selected to the regional is Big East Champion Seton Hall and Texas A&M, who will be the first opponent for the Bobcats this Friday.

The journey wasn’t easy for Texas State as the Bobcats played through both a difficult non-conference schedule and a tough conference schedule to finish with a record of 34-23-1.

Among those victories are wins over Texas, Alabama and Wichita State, who all made the Tournament this year.

But despite the hard journey, starting pitcher Jessica Mullins said she is proud of the team for putting in the hard work through the season.

“I’m excited that we got the recognition we have worked so hard for,” Mullins said. “Making a regional isn’t easy and any team we face will not be easy, but if we play to our true potential like we have been, we will conquer anyone in our path. I’m so excited to get this far with this team. I love each and every one of them and there is no other team I’d rather be in this spot with.”

Texas State will square off with Texas A&M Friday night from Red and Charline McCombs Field in Austin in a double elimination round.

First pitch is at 6:30 p.m.
