Bobcats receive All-American honorable mentions

TEXAS STATE TRACK & FIELD

Texas State junior T’Mond Johnson and the men’s 4x100 meter relay team both finished 18th in their events at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Johnson, who participated in the shot put, recorded a throw of 18.91 meters in his final throw to secure the 18th-place finish. His throw is the eighth best in Bobcat history. Johnson’s outing secured him an All-American honorable mention for the second straight year. This is the sixth time this year that Johnson has tallied a top 10 program record in the shot put.

The 4x100 meter relay team consisting of senior De’Marcus Porter, junior Lincoln Warren, and freshmen Jaylen Allen and Carlos Wilson beat out Georgia, Stanford, Purdue and California State Fullerton to secure the 18th-place finish with a season-best mark of 39.81. The team’s time goes down as the second-fastest time in school history. The finish helps the team secure All-American honorable mention accolades.

This is the third time Porter has been named an honorable mention All-American. He received the honor in 2016 and 2015 with the 4x400 meter relay squad. Warren becomes a two-time honorable mention All-American and was a part of the 2016 4x400 meter relay team with Porter.
