Bobcats win series against JMU, host Texas A&M Wednesday

Texas State softball won their opening conference series on the road beating the James Madison Dukes two games to three.

The Bobcats improved their overall record to 22-7 overall and their conference record to 2-1.

GAME 1 RECAP: BOBCATS SIX RUN FOURTH INNING PUSHES TEXAS STATE TO WIN

Texas State scored six runs in the top of the fourth inning en route to a dominating 8-4 win over the Dukes.

After being tied 1-1, the Bobcats loaded the bases with one out in the top of the fourth inning.

Catcher Megan Kelnar broke the tie break with a RBI single into right field putting the Bobcats up 2-1.

Following a fielder’s choice that gave the Bobcats their second out of the at-bat, left fielder Ciara Trahan connected with an infield single to extend the lead 3-1.

Third baseman Sara Vanderford drew a walk scoring another run before right fielder Anna Jones hit another Bobcat infield single extending the lead to 5-1.

Designated player Karmyn Bass connected with a RBI single into right field scoring two more runs. At the end of the at-bat, Texas State led 7-1.

James Madison tacked on three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning before second baseman Katarina Zarate's RBI single made it an 8-4 game leading to a Texas State win.

GAME 2 RECAP: BOBCATS HOT START LEADS TO SERIES WIN

The Bobcat bats started off hot. They jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back as Texas State won 7-4 to win the series.

Vanderford kicked off the offensive attack with a RBI double putting the Bobcats up 1-0.

In the top of the third, center fielder Piper Randolph RBI single down the first base line to extend the lead 2-0.

First baseman J.J. Smith delivered the bomb smashing a two-run homer to make it a 4-0 game.

Vanderford capped off the scoring attack with a three-run home run into left for the 7-0 lead. James Madison scored three runs in the fifth and sixth inning but it wasn’t enough as Texas State won 7-3.

GAME 3 RECAP: WALK OFF HOMER FOILS BOBCAT SWEEP Texas State could not complete the sweep as James Madison walked it off in the extra innings on a two-run homer handing the Bobcats a 3-1 loss.

J.J. Smith scored the lone run for the Bobcats with an RBI double into center field in the top of the fourth inning.

LOOKING AHEAD Texas State is back home this week starting off with a Top 25 showdown with the Texas A&M Aggies.

The Bobcats will be back in conference play with a weekend series against App State.
