Bobcats winning streak hits six games as Texas State sweeps Arkansas State

The Texas State volleyball team continues to roll through conference play as the Bobcats swept the doubleheader against Arkansas State.

The Bobcats improve to 16-7 overall with a 9-3 conference record while extending their winning streak to six games.

In the first game of the double header, the Bobcats knocked off the Red Wolves to win the match 3-1 (25-18, 24-26, 25-13, 25-16).

K.J. Johnson led the way for Texas State leading the team in kills with nine.

Maggie Walsh was second with eight kills followed by both Ryann Torres and Samantha Wunsch with seven apiece.

Torres led the team in assists with 31 followed by Alyssa Ortega with seven.

The Bobcats continued their impressive defensive performance from last week as Texas State recorded 16 blocks at the net with Jade Defraeye leading the way with five followed by Torres, Johnson and Bailey Hanner with three apiece.

On the backline, Walsh led the team in digs with 17 followed by Johnson with 13 and Ortega with 12.

In the second game of the double header, the Bobcats finished the job with a sweep of the Red Wolves 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-21).

The duo of Johnson and Walsh led the way for the Bobcats with 11 kills each followed by Wunsch with nine.

Torres again led the team in assists with 30.

Ortega held the back line for the Bobcats with nine digs followed by Johnson and Torres with eight.

Texas State will look to continue their winning streak on the road once more as the Bobcats face off with Sun Belt West Division leading Troy Trojans.

The push to the playoffs continues for several of the Hays County schools as football season enters the final week of the regular season.

Wimberley captured their third consecutive district championship as the Texans defeated the Lago Vista Vikings 34-22.

The Texans improve to 9-0 for the year making it first time Wimberley has won three consecutive outright district championships since 2010-2012.

Dripping Springs continued their winning ways with a dominate 52-3 win over the Austin Del Valle Cardinals.

The Tigers improve to 7-2 overall and will enter the 6A Division II Playoff Bracket as the #1 Seed.

Buda Johnson captured their fifth win of the season as the Jaguars defeated the Austin Akins Eagles 49-7.
