New field turf is installed in preparation for Friday home opener against Wagner

Installation of new field turf at San Marcos CISD’s Toyota Rattler Stadium completes a portion of SMCISD’s 2023 Bond Proposition C, officials stated Friday.

SMCISD voters approved the measure to install new turf at the multipurpose stadium during the May 6 uniform election. The necessity to replace the turf arose as the previous turf reached its life expectancy.

SMCISD contracted Paragon Sports Constructors to complete the turf project at Rattler Stadium. Prop C was expected to cost approximately $985,000. The project came in under budget.

“I want to thank our community for their support of the 2023 Bond,” said SMCISD Superintendent, Dr. Michael Cardona. “We are proud to announce that our initial bond project came in on time and under budget. We are excited that our students will have a field turf that is properly laid down to meet the safety requirements. I want to thank Coach Walsh and Chief of Operations, Bernie Sandoval, and his team for their hands-on approach to ensure that our project was completed in a timely manner and most importantly under budget.”

He said the new field turf will provide SMCISD students with a safe foundation for them to perform and compete at Rattler Stadium.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to all of those who voted in support of the 2023 Bond, and SMCISD’s vision to continue to build premiere facilities that are student centered,” said SMCISD Athletic Director, John Walsh. “I also want to thank Paragon Sports Constructors, for their attention to detail and installing a safety first, state of the art competition turf field at Toyota Rattler Stadium.”

New field turf is also being installed on San Marcos High School’s practice field, baseball field and softball field.

The field turf installation marks the beginning of multiple projects funded by SMCISD’s 2023 Bond. Voters approved Proposition B, which funds the construction, renovation, and equipment of school buildings in the district; and the purchase of new school buses. Additionally, Prop B funds the district wide safety infrastructure, technology, transportation and mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) improvements.

Voters also approved Proposition D in May, which will fund the construction of a natatorium to be built at San Marcos High School. The natatorium will include a 25yard by 25-yard pool, and support space.

Projects funded through Proposition B and D are underway.
