It was another rough outing for Texas State as the Bobcats fell to the Oklahoma State Cowgirls , 3-0.

The Cowgirls capitalized on three goals in the first half for Head Coach Steve Holeman’s squad, as the Bobcats drop their third straight game.

“Oklahoma State is a very good team,” Holeman said. “We knew they were good and they certainly tested us tonight. They really picked us apart in the first half.”

But despite the threegame losing streak, the tough non-conference schedule to start the season has its purpose.

“These are the games that prepare us for conference play,” Holeman said. “If they [Oklahoma State] were in the Sun Belt, they would be competing for a title. So, there is no shame in losing to them. They are very dynamic and take advantage of their opportunities.”

Oklahoma State was on the board early in the first half as Hannah Chance scored off the assist from Logan Heausler and Megan Haines in the 12th minute to go up 1-0.

The 22nd minute saw Oklahoma State’s Ellie Geoffroy score off the assist from Xcaret Pineda as the Cowgirls went up 2-0.

Oklahoma State proceeded to score, once off the penalty kick as Pineda pushed the ball past the goalie to put the Cowgirls up 3-0.

“Their wingers were super dynamic,” Holeman said. “As a coach, I told the team that I would take the blame for preparing us. I thought we could have done a better job isolating the flanks and we didn’t provide cover. They just torched us on that side and created so many chances. … We did a better job in the second half.”

Despite the Bobcats having early chances to score a goal on the Cowgirls, the Oklahoma State defense remained firm and prevented Texas State from scoring.

“They are a team that is good everywhere,” Holeman said. “They are good in goal, backline, midfield and up top. We definitely created some chances and had some scrambles in the box, but we just were not able to covert. But that will come within time.”

As the Bobcats seek to snap a three-game losing streak this Sunday against Houston Christian, the early season struggles against three quality opponents will help Texas State in what is certain to be a another tough conference season.

“These are teams that we will face in the Sun Belt that play very similarly,” Holeman said. “Against North Texas and UTSA those games were pretty even but it was clear Oklahoma State was the better team. ... We could go into conference play undefeated if we scheduled the right teams but then we wouldn’t be prepared for conference play so we want to play tough teams to be prepared.”

Texas State travels to Houston tonight in a non-conference showdown with the Houston Christian Huskies.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. from Sorrels Field in Houston.
