Thursday, December 6, 2018

**UPDATE:  On Thursday, Dec. 6, the San Marcos Police Department obtained a felony arrest warrant for Ismael Jose Facundo, a resident of Martindale,  for the offense of Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon in regards to the stabbing that occurred at Sights & Sounds of Christmas on Wednesday night

Facundo’s whereabouts are unknown at this time; anyone with information about the suspect should contact Detective Aubry at 512-753-2306.

San Marcos Police say a stabbing that occurred at Sights & Sounds of Christmas on Wednesday night was an isolated incident.

Two men are being sought in connection with the attack, which occurred near the basketball courts in City Park.

Law enforcement personnel working security responded to the stabbing, which occurred minutes before 9 p.m. A press release from the city said the victim, who was not identified by name or age, was given “medical aid” at the scene for a neck wound and then transported to Seton Medical Center Hays for surgery.

Several witnesses were identified, and two suspects are being sought in the crime.  The offender has been identified by both the victim and numerous witnesses, the city said.

Though the Daily Record was not allowed to speak to police directly regarding this incident, Police Chief Chase Stapp said in the press release that the stabbing grew out of what is believed to be an “existing disagreement” between the victim and the two suspects.

The city did not offer a description of the two men being sought, but an alert by the Texas State University Police that was posted Wednesday night said both the suspects are Hispanic and look to be in their 20s. One was said to have a tattoo on his neck.

The city downplayed the incident and Stapp said the public “should feel confident to attend and bring their families to the final three nights of Sights & Sounds and enjoy a safe and festive night of fun.”

He said the annual event is a top law enforcement priority, and “the event is secured by multiple armed law enforcement personnel and additional unarmed security personnel each night.”

Wednesday's stabbing is the first report of violence to have been associated with the festival since its inception in the late 1980s.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact Detective Aubry at 512-754-2306. Anyone who believes they have seen the suspects should call 911.
