SMCISD cuts ribbon on new Transportation Annex

Tuesday, March 12, 2019

Among those who gathered Monday morning for the official ribbon cutting to open the San Marcos CISD’s new Transportation Annex were bus drivers who, like everyone else, lost an hour of sleep with the implementation of Daylight Saving Time on Sunday.

But most everyone else doesn’t have to get out of bed at 4 a.m. like bus drivers typically do. And, they do it rain or shine — on the coldest of days and the stormiest of mornings.

Meaningfully, bus drivesr were among the groups that speakers at the ceremony thanked for their important work. Chamber of Commerce President Jason Mock called them “the men and women who wake up every day to make sure our kids get to school” and SMCISD Superintendent Michael Cardona noted that when disaster strikes, “our transportation members who drive buses and the transportation director are the first to jump in and ask ‘what can we do to help.’”

Board of Trustees President Clem Cantu broadened her remarks. “I especially want to thank the taxpayers which have made this possible,” she said. “Without the votes from the citizens we would not have done this.”

Mock called the occasion “a great day for our community and a great day for our school system.” He called the facility an “added value to our district.”
