DeWalt named National Player of the Week

Texas State Volleyball
Tuesday, October 2, 2018

Texas State freshman setter Emily DeWalt was named the AVCA Division I National Player of the Week on Tuesday.

DeWalt is the first Bobcat to receive the award in Texas State history. She is only the fourth player in the Sun Belt to earn the weekly honor, and joins Western Kentucky’s Jordyn Skinner (Sept. 13, 2011) and Amanda Schiff (Nov. 10, 2003), and Middle Tennessee State’s Ashley Adams (Sept. 6, 2005).

DeWalt had a strong week during the Bobcats’ home matches against Little Rock and Arkansas State. The freshman from Helotes recorded double-doubles in both contests. She now has 11 this season, which leads the conference. DeWalt averaged 14 assists per set and 3.43 digs per set against the Trojans and Red Wolves. She added six kills, four aces and a block. During Friday’s game against Little Rock, she amassed 55 assists and 14 digs, and added 43 assists and 10 digs during Saturday’s match against Arkansas State.

Alongside this national award, DeWalt also received the Sun Belt Setter and Co-Freshman of the Week awards. She is the first setter and first freshman to receive the AVCA award this season.
