SAN ANTONIO - Survive and advance is the name of the game in March and the San Marcos Rattlers (38-3) with their brotherhood mentality and a hard, gritty effort knocked off the San Antonio Warren Warriors 53-50 on Friday night.

Corporate welfare policies

Thank you for the comprehensive news article published in the Record on March 2 about continuing tax incentives and rebates to corporations that are interested in relocating or expanding in Texas. Left out of the discussion is whether such corporate welfare is good public policy. Over two decades ago, Time magazine published a lengthy investigative report that demonstrated that such corporate welfare does little, if anything, for communities and school districts. Such corporations regularly fail to fully honor the agreements to hire new employees at good wages or invest in local communities at specified rates.

The Wimberley Players will present classical guitarist Charles Cavanaugh to lead off as the first performer of the 2023 season concerts. The 108-seat Wimberley Playhouse is ideally suited for solo and duet musical performances. Cavanaugh will be performing original compositions and telling the stories that inspired him.

In 2012, the gazebo was restored to enhance Veramendi Plaza Park for community events. The Heritage Association of San Marcos donated $30,000 to fund it with an additional pledge of $5,000.

During the pandemic, everyone experienced change that forced organizations to think creatively about longterm solutions rather than short-term fixes. The Heritage Association of San Marcos has been re-imagining its organization over the last two years to clearly define its structure to better contribute to the community moving forward.

Off to see the wizard with SMCISD

The stage lights dimmed at San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District’s Crockett Elementary School and suddenly the audience wasn’t in San Marcos anymore. Magically, family and friends were transported to first, a house in Kansas, and then by way of a tornado, to the legendary land of Oz.

What the hail?

Large size hail and storms that began Wednesday and lasted into the early hours Thursday, caused some damage and power outages across portions of the city and county, according to the National Weather Service and city officials.
