Texas State was selected second in the Sun Belt preseason coaches’ poll, the conference announced on Wednesday.

The Bobcats were picked behind four-time conference regular-season champion, and five-time tournament champs South Alabama. The Jaguars received seven first-place votes. Texas State amassed two first-place tallies after a 10-6-1 2018 campaign, which marks the most first-place votes since joining the Sun Belt in 2013.

Troy was selected to finish behind the Bobcats in third place followed by fourth place Little Rock and fifth place Coastal Carolina. Arkansas State and Georgia Southern tied for sixth place. Appalachian State was picked in eighth. Georgia State was placed in ninth, while Louisiana was slotted in 10th and Louisiana-Monroe was picked last.

The Sun Belt also released its all-conference preseason team, which featured four Bobcats. Junior forward Kaylee Davis, junior midfielder Jordan Kondikoff, junior goalkeeper Heather Martin and junior defender Genesis Turman were named to the All-Sun Belt team.

Martin and Davis receive the preseason honor after being recognized as first team All-Sun Belt selections after the 2017 season. Kondikoff was placed on the second team. This is Turman’s first preseason accolade.

In 2017, Davis scored seven goals during Sun Belt competition, which was a team-high and the most among returning conference players in 2018. Davis scored two goals in a match three times last year, and scored the winning goal twice. She put up 49 shots and 21 shots on goal last season.

Martin recorded 60 saves in 2017. She led the Sun Belt with five clean sheets. She is ranked in the top 10 in saves, save percentage, wins and goalie minutes played in Bobcat history.

Kondikoff has tallied four assists, which leads all returning Bobcats.

Turman has started all 35 games during her two years at Texas State. She’s scored two goals, recorded two assists and has put up 30 shot attempts.

Joining the four Bobcats on the All-Sun Belt list are Little Rock senior forward Arola Aparicio Gili, South Alabama junior forward Kory Dixon and senior defender Hannah Godfrey, Little Rock junior midfielder Doro Greulich and senior defender Liesa Seifert, Georgia State senior midfielder Monique Hundley, and Arkansas State senior goalkeeper Kelsey Ponder.

Dixon was picked as the Sun Belt preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while Godfrey was named preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

Texas State begins its 2018 season with an exhibition match against Incarnate Word in San Antonio. The Bobcats kickoff the regular season on Friday, Aug. 17 against Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m. in  Ruston, La.
