Hays County Judge tests positive for COVID-19

Monday, December 21, 2020

Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra announced Monday that he tested positive for COVID-19.

Becerra received his results Monday after he was notified that he may have been exposed to the coronavirus.

“Even with all the precautions we take, sometimes exposure is still possible through those in our immediate family,” Becerra said in statement, adding that he is doing well and will quarantine and follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control.

Becerra said his entire family tested positive for the virus. “I am posting about this immediately because I want to remind everyone this virus is extremely contagious,” Becerra said in a social media post. “I am lucky to live in a multi-family, multi-generational household. While I love this arrangement, during this pandemic it is a reminder just how easily we can spread the virus among us.”

Becerra encourages everyone to isolate throughout the holiday season and to celebrate with family remotely.

Becerra will conduct Tuesday’s commissioners court meeting remotely and will “continue to be engaged in all the operations of the county during this pandemic via remote access, emails and other appropriate communications,” Becerra’s office said in a news release.
