WATCH: SMPD releases video of vehicle involved in fatal hit and run

Tuesday, March 3, 2020

The San Marcos Police Department released video of a red pick-up truck involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident over the weekend.

Police also released more detailed information regarding the truck involved. SMPD says the truck suspected is a “red single cab pickup with bed cover, bluish headlights (right one broken out from collision) and red LED strip between tailgate and bumper going fully across back of truck.”

Police say it’s a 90s model truck based on the wire antenna, which is now missing. It also likely has minor damage to the front right side. SMPD says it’s a smaller truck, possibly a Chevy S-10, Isuzu, Ford Ranger or Toyota Tacoma.

Police responded to a report of a man found laying on the edge of the road at the 200 block of S. Guadalupe Street on Saturday at approximately 1:27 a.m.

Officers found Eligio Vasquez, 59 of San Antonio, who was not breathing, the San Marcos Police Department said. Police say officers began CPR on Vasquez which was continued by San Marcos fire and Hays County medical personnel.

Responders were able to get Vasquez’s pulse back and he was transported to Seton-Hays in Kyle, however, he was later pronounced dead, SMPD said.

Justice of the Peace Maggie H. Moreno ordered an autopsy through the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office. Next of kin has been notified.

This is the third traffic fatality in San Marcos in 2020.

Anyone with information regarding Saturday’s hit and run are urged to call SMPD Sergeant Sam Mayers at 512-753-2182.
