Hays County reports 4 new virus cases, 2 additional recoveries

The Hays County Local Health Department reported three new lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases, raising the total to 217 on Wednesday. 

The county currently has 70 active cases. The local health department has received 2,066 negative tests and has 121 pending tests. Two additional county residents have recovered from the disease, increasing the total recoveries to 144. Twenty-two county residents diagnosed with COVID-19 have been hospitalized, including four current hospitalizations. 

San Marcos has had two new cases since Tuesday. The city has seen 63 total cases and currently has 21 active cases. Kyle has one additional case since Tuesday. Kyle has had 100 total cases and has 34 active cases.

Buda has tallied 27 total COVID-19 cases, including six active cases. Wimberley has had nine cases and has four active cases. Austin, within Hays County, has had six total virus cases, including two active cases. Dripping Springs has had six total cases and has three active cases. Driftwood and Niederwald have had two total cases each. Bear Creek and Uhland have each seen one total case. 

Forty-eight patients who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 are between 30-39 years old. Forty-five residents fall in the 50-59-year-old age range. Forty residents fall in the 20-29 year old age range. Thirty-four people diagnosed with the disease are 40-49 years old. Twenty-one patients are 60-69 years old, nine are 70-79 years old, nine are between 10-19 years old, eight are 80 and older and three are 9 years old or younger.

One-hundred-twenty-six females and 91 males have been diagnosed with the coronavirus. 

According to the county, only 10 patients who tested positive for the illness had traveled before becoming sick, while 207 residents had no travel history before becoming symptomatic. 

The Texas Department of State Health Services reported Wednesday that 42,403 Texans have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and there have been 1,158 fatalities. The DSHS estimates that 23,519 Texans have recovered from the disease.

COVID-19 causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks for most people.
