Texas State Department of Theatre & Dance to present ‘DeMaskUs: a.k.a Running’

San Marcos Parks and Recreation will host its Spring Break Camp coinciding with SMCISD’s school break period March 13 - 17 from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Spring Break Camp is for children ages 5 - 11 years old.

San Marcos Art League taking applications for the 2023 Fine Arts Scholarship

The San Marcos Art League is now accepting donations and applications for their annual fine arts scholarship for high school seniors attending San Marcos High School or in the San Marcos area. San Marcos Art League scholarships are open to all high school seniors living in San Marcos or attending San Marcos High School who wish to pursue higher education in any of the visual or performing arts. High school seniors must apply before the deadline on March 20.

SMCISD student dies following traffic accident in Goodnight Middle School parking lot

An 11-year-old Goodnight Middle School student died after being hit by a vehicle early Friday in the drop off lane of the parking lot at the start of the school day, according to San Marcos Police.

Texas revisits making illegal voting a felony

Republican leaders in the Texas Senate are intent on raising the penalty for voting illegally from a misdemeanor to a second-degree felony, despite the lack of evidence of widespread voter fraud in Texas. The effort comes nearly two years after the Legislature passed a sweeping voting bill, Senate Bill 1, that lowered the penalties for such crimes to a misdemeanor — and then almost immediately began discussing raising them back.
