Teaching fishing skills to a new generation in Texas

At nearly 82 years of age, I find myself thinking about passing on the outdoor hunting and fishing skills to younger people more often. Of my six grandchildren, only my granddaughter, Demaris, really cares about outdoor sports. I have done lots of hunting and fishing trips with her and will go more often now that she has moved back to Texas.

Game: San Marcos @ Eagle Pass September 22 7 PM History: Eagle Pass leads the series 1-0 Last Meeting: Eagle Pass overcame a 19-6 deficit at halftime to spoil San Marcos homecoming in a 39-31 defeat for the Rattlers Quickfacts: EaglePassisthefirstAmericansettlementto be established on the Rio Grande River. The town earned it’s name from the contour of the hills through which the Rio Grande flows and “bore a fancied resemblance to the outstretched wings of an eagle.” Being on the USMexico border, Eagle Pass shares a border with the city of Piedras Negras of Coahulia, Mexico.

Fun Fact Friday

Owen Goodnight is the longest tenured coach in San Marcos High School Football history having coached the Rattlers for 17 consecutive seasons from 1950-1966. Goodnight won 121 games at San Marcos along with winning five district championships.

The San Marcos 8 & Under All-Stars qualified for the Pony World Series in Laredo, and are one of four teams to qualify for the series. The Rattlers have shown outstanding teamwork throughout the season and hope to bring home a trophy to San Marcos.
