The old Hays County Jail was vacated in 1937, and is said to be haunted by the ghost of Anna Schulze (Schroeder, Hauptreif). In the early morning hours of October 31, 1924, Anna would be found hanging from her jail cell door. She was expecting her second child in the coming winter, and inevitably the death sentence for multiple counts of homicide. Daily Record photo by Lance Winter
