Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra used the burn ban agenda item as a chance to discuss the approximately 400-acre Oak Grove Fire that tore through Hays County just Northwest of San Marcos this past weekend. He pointed out the need for additional access to the area by safety personnel.

Gary Job Corps staff and students assist with the Community Bingo event hosted by the Greater San Marcos Youth Council. The event was held at the Espinoza Recreation Center in San Marcos. GYMSC operates a private, non-profit Children’s Shelter for children ages 2-17, in Hays County. The GSMYC 23rd Annual School Supply Drive runs through Aug.15. The Hays County Commissioners Court recently honored the Hays County Sheriff’s Office with a proclamation honoring Aug. 7 as the 175th Anniversary of the department. Center, Hays County Commissioners Court Judge Ruben Becerra presents the proclamation to Hays County Sheriff Gary Cutler. Pictured are members of the sheriff’s office and members of the court and staff. The Hays County Sheriff’s Office traces its history back to March 1848 but the first sheriff took office on Aug. 7, 1848. The history of Texas and law enforcement are intertwined with Hays County and San Marcos and this proclamation is mindful of those long decades of service.

Hays County Sheriff’s Office celebrates 175th anniversary

Hays County Commissioners Court adopted a proclamation recognizing Aug. 7 as the 175th anniversary of the Hays County Sheriff ’s Office at their regularly scheduled meeting last week.
